Burglary reported at Itzmi Restaurant

Posted

On August 30 at approximately 3:51 a.m., Town of Newburgh Police officers were dispatched to Itzmi Restaurant for the report of a burglary in progress. Within one minute, officers arrived on scene to find the glass entrance door smashed. Upon securing the perimeter, officers heard commotion inside, then observed a male exiting through the same smashed door. Upon verbal commands for the male to stop, he ran back into the restaurant.

The male then ran through the restaurant and attempted to flee out the back door, where officers were already set up. Verbal commands were once again used to stop the male, who stopped momentarily. As officers approached the man, he made the decision to run from officers. Officers caught the male, after a short foot pursuit, where he began to fight with officers. Officers were able to take the man into custody to continue their investigation.

It was found that the man, Duane Williams, 59, of Newburgh, smashed the front door glass of the restaurant, entered and stole property from the restaurant. Williams was charged with Burglary 3rd, Criminal Mischief 3rd, Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest.

Williams was arraigned in the City of Middletown court where he was released on an appearance ticket.
