City adopts CDBG Action Plan

Newburgh City Council approved the adoption of the City of Newburgh’s Consolidated Housing and Community Development Strategy and Action Plan for Fiscal Year 2023 in the total amount of $850,169.00.

According to city documents, the Community Development Block Grant [CDBG] is administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD]. This action plan is required to be prepared by the city and projects must follow specific guidelines stated by CDBG as “activities that benefit low- and moderate-income people, the prevention or elimination of slums or blight or community development activities to address an urgent threat to health or safety”.

City of Newburgh Planning and Development Director Alexandra Church presented the resolution during the city work session on Thursday, November 10. According to Church, a majority of the funding is going to Complete Streets Infrastructure Improvements and the Housing In-Rem Property Program. Additional funding will be going to Quality of Life Improvements/Neighborhood Services such as Workforce Training, Economic Development, Quality of Life Improvements/Neighborhood Services such as Community Outreach and additional initiatives.
