City seeks to keep the Lanternfly under control

Newburgh City Council approved an application to be sent to the PRISM Program for Spotted Lanternfly Control. This is a no cost program to the city as a whole that they could apply for if they so choose. The Spotted Lanternfly is recognized as an invasive species to the state and to the county as a whole.

“The Quassaick Creek Watershed Alliance is an environmental organization with interests in the City of Newburgh and they have spent some time in the Crystal Lake area and they brought to my attention some infestations of the Spotted Lanternfly in that area,” said City Engineer Jason Morris. “They’ve advised that the PRISM program is a potential pathway for the control of the Spotted Lanternfly.”
