Newburgh City Council was expected to vote on Tuesday, May 28 for the City Manager to apply for a grant from the United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance. The grant would be under the 2024 Bulletproof Vest Partnership in the amount of $10,200 with a fifty percent match to be paid out of police funds.

Police Chief Brandon Rola explained to council on May 23 that the grant amount would cover the period of April 1, 2024 through August 31, 2026. The police department has requested funding for 12 vests at the cost of $10,200. The fifty percent match in the amount of $5,100 would be derived from the budget line A.3120.0417 titled “uniforms” under the police department section of the budget.
