The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has approved leases for two corporate jet hangar projects at New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), totaling over 300,000 square feet and $119 million in capital investment. The development consortium SWF Development, LLC (SWFD), composed of Sky Harbour, LLC, MJJ Builders Corp., and Passero Associates, will construct approximately 13 corporate jet hangars totaling 182,000 square feet. Aviation Facilities Company Management, LLC (AFCO) will build two hangars totaling 125,000 square feet. These projects are expected to create hundreds of permanent and construction jobs in Orange County.

The Orange County Partnership has been actively advocating for economic development, job creation, and investment at SWF. These hangar projects align with the partnership’s strategic economic development goals, focusing on sustainable, high-growth sectors. The increase in corporate jet and aviation activity in the New York market positions SWF as a prime location for corporate jet hangars. According to the Port Authority’s resolution, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, corporate jet activity rapidly accelerated. In 2021, corporate jet flights increased by 14% globally compared to 2019. In 2022, activity increased by 10% compared to 2021.” The growing demand for new developments to support general aviation activity at airports with sufficient land capacity has positioned Stewart Airport as an emerging economic driver for Orange County and the Hudson Valley.

“Supporting economic development at New York Stewart International Airport has been one of my top priorities,” said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “SWF is a vital asset for both travelers and corporate businesses. The SWF Development and AFCO hangar projects will be a significant addition to Orange County’s growing economy.”

Maureen Halahan, President and CEO of the Orange County Partnership, said, “The Port Authority’s investment in New York Stewart International Airport is an investment in our future, creating jobs and opportunities throughout the region. This will be a catalyst for economic development projects at SWF for years to come. We applaud the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s Board of Directors for supporting these significant projects, positioning Orange County as a leader in New York’s aviation sector.”

Stephen Bedetti, Town of New Windsor Supervisor, said, “I thank the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for their commitment to New York Stewart International Airport in Orange County and the Town of New Windsor. As Town Supervisor, I am committed to prioritizing strategic economic development. The SWF Development and AFCO projects will create good-paying jobs for local residents, stimulate activity for our small businesses, and generate new opportunities for our community.”
