According to the city website, the HRC is made up of seven members appointed by the city council for three year terms. The members of this commission will elect a chairperson to serve a period no longer than three years. The HRC in the city is “empowered to foster mutual respect and understanding among all racial, religious and nationality groups in the community and to inquire into incidents of tension and conflict among or between various racial, religious and nationality groups and to report complaints to the New York State Division of Human Rights alleging unlawful discriminatory practices.”

Currently, there are four vacancies on the commission per the city website. City council moved to discuss the presented list during their executive session following Thursday night’s meeting. The appointments would look to be voted on Wednesday, April 24.
