Newburgh City Council were presented April 18 a resolution to amend resolution 178-2023 that would authorize the allocation of $1 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds between the city’s lead service line replacement program and the water meter meter replacement project.
City Water Superintendent Wayne Vradenburgh explained to the council that $400,000 of the $1 million funds would be going towards the water meter replacement project. According to Vradenburgh, there was a mass meter change a decade ago and reading devices for meters powered by batteries are in need of replacement.
