The Newburgh City Council on Monday, December 18 took time during their meeting to recognize Councilman At-Large Anthony Grice for his service, his work and his impact to the city community. A citation signed by all council members with the official city seal was presented to Grice.

Monday night marked Grice’s final council meeting since stepping into office in 2018.

“Words can’t even articulate how we’re going to miss you, how much we’re going to miss you and how diligent how significant your work has been for this city,” said Mayor Torrance Harvey.

“The time away from your family is very challenging, and I congratulate you on making the decision of being able to spend more time with your family and enjoy that time,” said Councilman Bob Sklarz.

“We appreciate everything you’ve done for the city. It takes a lot to volunteer for a lot of things and be out there and be on the council and then still run your family,” said Councilwoman Patty Sofokles.

“I am really going to miss you, Councilmember Grice, and thank you for all of the work that you have done in our community and for always shouting out Lander Street,” said Councilwoman Giselle Martinez.

“Thank you for doing what you’re doing. Thank you for sitting next to me and endured all them jokes and just thank you for doing what you did for the community and providing a pathway for the young people to follow,” said Councilman Omari Shakur. “Look forward to working with you on other projects in the community and you know, you will be missed dearly and what can I say? Well deserved. I’ll see you around town,” said Councilwoman Ramona Monteverde.

“So as my colleagues well know, I will fuss at them just as deep as I fuss at someone that’s on the other side of the party. I’ll fuss at them just as deep as you know for, for anyone but it is really all done with love and they know how I feel about them. They know that I love them and I greatly respect them,” said Grice. “This is an A-Team. We [city council] have truly gotten a lot done, I’m super proud of this team.”

A farewell celebration for Grice will be held Wednesday, December 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lions Den Barbershop at 16 Liberty Street Flats.
