Donald T. Blaine Sr., a retired carpenter, passed away on September 15, 2026 at the Sapphire Nursing Home in Newburgh, NY. Donald was born on September 19,1933 on Staten Island, New York. He was a son of the late Michael and Mary Dicks Blaine.
Donald was one of fourteen children. As a youngster, his family moved to Cornwall-On-Hudson. He attended St. Thomas of Canterbury School as well as Cornwall on Hudson high school. He left school to join the U.S. Marines to fight in Korea. He proudly served our nation in both Korea and Puerto Rico until his honorable discharge in 1954.
He married Judith Anne Steffens on August 14, 1955. Together, they raised two sons, Donald Jr. and John. They were married for 62 years.
Dad was very community minded. He was a member of the VFW Post 1161, a Life Member of Highland Engine Co. #1 for over sixty years. He donated many years to the Cornwall Little League, where he was honored with induction into the Little League Wall of Fame and to the Cornwall Wrestling Program.
Perhaps Dad’s greatest talent was his skills as a carpenter. Whether it was at home, at the homes of his two sons, the Fire Department or the Little League field, he was always ready to help with a project.
After working for many years in the construction industry, Dad took a job with the Cornwall Central School District, where he worked for over twenty years. The pride he took in every task and project was noticed and appreciated by all.
Family was the most important thing in dad’s life. Spending time with sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to him. The holidays were even more special for “Poppy” when he was with his grandchildren. For the past nine years he was able to celebrate Christmas with Finn and Tatum and share a very special bond with his great-grandsons.
A very special event was when dad was awarded his high school diploma in 2003 alongside his grandson David. Dad never passed up an opportunity to spend time with his 13 brothers and sisters. They shared many memorable moments over these many years.
Dad is survived by his sons: Donald Jr. (Susan) of Cornwall and John (Gail) of Rehobeth Beach Delaware; his grandson: David (Jennifer) of Floral Park NY; granddaughters: Victoria Blaine of Philadelphia and Madison Blaine of Virgina; and his great-grandsons: Finn and Tatum of Floral Park.
Donald was predeceased by his wife Judith; his parents: Michael and Mary; his brothers: Jerome, Michael, John, and Joseph; and his sisters: Dorothy, Margaret, Sheila, Mary, Joan, Patricia, Josie and Teresa. He is survived by his brother: Walter.
