Marina Parodo has had a storied career as a member of the Newburgh Free Academy girls’ soccer team.

She finished the season as the Goldbacks’ leading scorer, breaking the record in a 4-3 win over the Beacon Bulldogs on September 20. She finished her senior season, being named to the Section 9 All-Section 9 team.

She broke the pervious scoring record, which was set by Celina Carrero in 2012, as she led the Goldbacks to a berth in the Section 9 Class AAA semifinals, where they fell, 3-2, to the Pine Bush Bushmen.

She plans to continue her soccer career at Division I Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

“She’s been our leading scorer every year she’s been on the team,” Newburgh coach Dave Doulin said after she broke the record. “Even though the other team is preparing to stop her, and they know that it’s going through her, sometimes they really can’t stop it.”

Her teammate, Riley Frederick, a midfielder, was named to the Section 9 Class AAA/AA all-star team.

The boys’ team, which was eliminated from the Section 9 Class AAA playoffs by a 3-0 loss to the third-seeded Kingston Tigers, had three players named to the Section 9 Class AAA all-star team.

Yensel Granados, a senior forward, was named to the team for his offensive skill, as was midfielder Angel Rosario. Junior defender Frank Mandato was also named to the Class AAA all-star team.
