Town of Newburgh officials officially re-opened the intersection of Gardnertown Road and Gidney Avenue last Friday, following completion of the replacement of the Gardnertown culvert, six weeks ahead of schedule. The project began in 2011 after Hurricane Irene caused damage to the culvert. Immediate repairs were performed by the Town at that time. In 2014 additional repairs were needed and completed by the town as an interim measure . The town applied for funding at that time, according to Supervisor Gil Piaquadio who said the total cost of the project was $1,703,495.00, including a federal grant of $979,641.40 administered through the New York State Department of Transportation.
