Health and Wellness fair set for February 8

Hello, New Windsor. Since I started at the Town of New Windsor Recreation Department 17 years ago, I have always believed that our Senior Citizens are such an important part of what we do in Recreation in the Town of New Windsor; and our Marasco Senior Center, which is open five days a week, is a big part of that Recreation.

We also offer special events just for our Seniors such as the Senior Luncheon, as well as events open to all which the seniors come to, such as our Summer Concert Series and Movies in the Park. Occasionally we offer guest speakers on topics that are geared to the Seniors such as senior scams, or emergency preparedness.

And I am really excited about an event that we are partnering up with the Orange County Department of Health and Office for the Aging, which is a Senior Health and Wellness Fair taking place on February 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Health and Wellness Fair will have representatives from the Orange County Health Department; the Healthy Neighborhoods Program; there will be health screenings and Nutrition information; the Orange County Office for the Aging; Orange County Emergency Services; Stop DWI & Traffic Safety; the Orange County Department of Social Services; and the New Windsor Police Department will all be on hand with their different programs and information geared for Seniors. Some of those things will include information on Senior Scams, health emergencies, etc. Covid Vaccine and Boosters will also be at the event for anyone that is in need of their vaccination, but for that you must pre-register by calling the Recreation Department at 845-565-7750.

Lunch will be provided immediately following the fair and is being sponsored by the New Windsor Police PBA. The New Windsor PBA is always so supportive of our Community Events and we appreciate them helping us out for this event, as the Seniors are such an important part of our community. The event will be held at the Town of New Windsor Town Hall Complex at the Community Center.

For more information contact the Recreation Department at 845-565-7750.

Congratulations to New Windsor Police Department’s Lieutenant Dan Valeri who was presented recently with a service achievement award for 25 years of service with the Police Department. I have worked with Lt. Valeri for 17 years on different events with the town, and he is a stand up guy and does a great job with the department.

The Town of New Windsor Recreation Department is pleased to announce some upcoming Recreation trips.
