Jacobson, Cahill head towards re-election

With thousands of absentee ballots still to be counted, incumbent Jonathan Jacobson (D-Newburgh) and Kevin Cahill (D-Kingston) appeared on their way to victory Wednesday.

Jacobson, seeking his second term in Albany, led Beacon Republican Challenger Andrew Gauzza IV by 7,000 votes: 22,079 - 14,959.

Jacobson noted that he received more than 60% percent of the vote so far. The current tally does not include the absentee and affidavit ballots.

“I only expect my margins to increase once all of the votes are counted,” Jacobson added. “I wish to thank all those who supported my campaign including the local Democratic Committees, the Working Families Party, organized labor, environmental activists, small businesses and those volunteers throughout the district who worked so hard to get me re-elected.”

Jacobson said that his record of delivering to the district and his voting record in Albany were the reasons for his strong showing at the polls. Jacobson said he was proud of stopping the Thruway takeover of the New York State Bridge Authority, making the tax cap permanent, passing voting reforms including early voting and laws to protect women’s reproductive health rights, common sense gun safety, and the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. Jacobson also passed legislation eliminating a $12.5 million penalty against the Newburgh School District. He secured $250,000 for paving in the City of Newburgh, $125,000 for a pavilion for the Town of Lloyd, $175,000 for the Town of Marlborough Community Center and $125,000 to buy Chromebooks for the Poughkeepsie School District.
