LoBiondo for Town Justice

To the People of the Town of Newburgh:

It is my distinct honor and pleasure to offer this letter of support for, and endorsement of, Anthony R. LoBiondo, candidate for Town Justice for the Town of Newburgh, a candidate with 35 years of combined criminal prosecutorial and defense experience, together with an accomplished record of skillful civil litigation experience.

During my twenty-five year tenure as a member of the Orange County judiciary, I have had the distinct honor of having Anthony appear before me in a significant number of cases, cases which, in many instances, required considerable trial skills and involved complex legal issues. In each case, he represented his clients with passion, skill and an overriding sense of respect for the court, the individuals involved, and the legal system in general.

My support, and endorsement, of his candidacy is based on what I consider the three cornerstones for judicial competence and success: (1) his extensive experience in prosecuting and defending criminal cases, together with his extensive trial experience in prosecuting and defending civil cases; (2) his integrity, judgment and temperament; and (3) his longstanding commitment and service to his community and the Town of Newburgh.

His expertise in prosecuting criminal cases, as recently attested to by former Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips, is commendable. During his 6-year tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Anthony not only prosecuted numerous misdemeanor cases in city/justice courts, but prosecuted, and tried to verdict, major felony cases at the County Court level. In later years, while in private practice, Anthony concentrated, and continues to concentrate, on criminal defense work, personal injury and civil litigation.

Anthony LoBiondo’s extensive experience in both prosecutorial and defense work vests him with a tremendous judicial attribute, i.e. the recognition that, for the judicial system to work effectively and in the best interest of all concerned, and as envisioned by the founders of our nation, the court room must be administered in a manner that is fair to all, with cases being heard, litigated and settled on a “level playing field”.

Equally important, if not more significant, as a judicial attribute is the way Anthony LoBiondo has conducted himself in the courtroom over the course of his 35-year career. While passionately and zealously representing his clients, he nevertheless is, and has been, extremely respectful to not only opposing counsel and their clients, but to the Court in general. This attribute underscores his qualities of integrity, judgment and temperament, qualities that are essential for proper judicial temperament and ethical conduct.

In addition to his extensive criminal and civil legal experience, his judgment, integrity, and temperament is Anthony LoBiondo’s longstanding contribution to his community and to the Town of Newburgh. Anthony has served on the Newburgh Town Board, has established a charitable foundation for the benefit of Newburgh Free Academy students, and has tirelessly worked with non-profit and community organizations for the betterment of the Town of Newburgh and the community at large. Anthony personifies the attribute that “communities grow and prosper when its citizens put more into their community than they take out”. It is for all these reasons that I enthusiastically support and endorse the candidacy of Anthony L. LoBiondo for the position of Town Justice for the Town of Newburgh.
