The Town of Newburgh-New Windsor Minors baseball team saw its magical run end on July 19 two wins short of a berth in the New York State tournament with an 11-5 loss to District 20 champion Harrison in the semifinals at the Gedney Park in Chappaqua.
Newburgh-New Windsor had previously beaten Harrison, 11-8 during pool play on July 15.

It was the only loss Newburgh-New Windsor suffered during 2022 tournament play after dominating District 19 play.

They won five straight to clinch the District 19 tournament, including two straight wins over Pine Bush. They followed that in the sectional tournament with three straight pool play wins to take the top seed in the Section 3 tournament.

Newburgh-New Windsor opened the tournament with an 11-8 win over Harrison in a game hosted by Warwick Little League. The next day they traveled to Suffern where they posted a 6-3 win over District 18 champion Stony Point.

Then on July 17, Newburgh-New Windsor traveled to Cortlandt Little League, where they posted an 8-5 win over Cortlandt American to earn the top seed in the single-elimination tournament, originally scheduled for Monday.

However, thunderstorms on July 18 pushed the semifinals to Tuesday, as Harrison avenged its previous loss to Newburgh-New Windsor by posting an 11-5 win to clinch their berth in last Wednesday’s championship game against Cortlandt AM, the third seed in Pool Play.

The winner of last Wednesday’s game between Harrison and Cortlandt American moved onto the New York State tournament at Union-Endicott in Broome County.
