Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Greater Newburgh is hosting its fourth annual charity golf tournament, “Take a Swing at Hunger,” on Monday, July 22, at the Powelton Club in Newburgh. All proceeds will benefit MOW, which delivers hot, nutritious meals to elderly and disabled individuals in New Windsor and the City and Town of Newburgh.

“Our tournament goal is to raise $14,000, to provide a free year-long supply of meals for our neediest clients,” said Tournament Director and MOW Board Member Joe Dirago. The organization is seeking tax-deductible donations to sponsor the event. Corporate and individual donations are welcome and will be recognized in the event program. Sponsorships range from $100 to $3,000, and in-kind donations for a silent auction are gladly accepted.

The event will feature 18 holes of golf at the prestigious Powelton Club, one of the most historic and scenic courses in the nation. “With a scramble format, this will be a fun day for all golfers. Foursome registrations are encouraged, but singles or twosomes are welcome,” said Dirago. “Just register, and we will pair you up with a group.”

Early reduced-fee golf registrations are accepted until May 27, and the final deadline for golf and sponsorships is June 30. The $210 registration fee includes greens fees, a cart, breakfast, bar cart, cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, and prizes. There will be golf prizes for the longest men’s and women’s drives, top foursomes, and closest-to-the-pin holes.

The event day begins with breakfast at 8:30 a.m., a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m., a reception at 2 p.m., and dinner at 3 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony and raffle drawing. To obtain registration or sponsorship forms, visitMealsOnWheelsNewburgh.org or email JSDirago@yahoo.com.

MOW is a registered 501(c)(3) charity and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. There are no income or age restrictions for meal recipients. MOW delivered more than 20,000 meals last year. There is a modest charge for those who can afford to pay, but that covers less than half of MOW’s expenses. The organization depends on donations to cover the rest.
