New Windsor officer struck by car, in stable condition

New Windsor Police Officer Maria Schettini remains in stable condition at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday, August 27. Schettini was directing traffic around a motor vehicle accident at the time of the incident.

New Windsor Police Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Sunday, August 27, 2023 on Little Britain Rd in the area of Executive Dr. While the accident was being investigated, Officer Schettini was directing traffic around the crash site when she was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Claudia A. Rudin, 74, of New Windsor. Rudin fled the scene and was subsequently stopped by officers over a mile away.

Officer Schettini was transported by a New Windsor Emergency Medical Services Ambulance to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh for further treatment. She was admitted to the hospital and remains in stable condition. The incident is still under investigation. As of Tuesday, August 29, the New Windsor Police Department’s Facebook page has shared that Officer Schettini was released from the hospital and was at home recuperating.
