Their first match of the season was already a success for the Newburgh Free Academy boys’ bowling team.

Gage Szymanowicz rolled in 266 in his third game to finish with a match-high 704 series as the Goldbacks beat the Goshen Gladiators, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon at Pat Tarsio Lanes in Newburgh.

Szymanowicz also rolled in 244 in his second game and opened the day with a 194.

Jordan DeWitt rolled a 226 in his second game and a 201 in the third on his way to a 616 series. Andre Alexander – the only other Goldback to bowl all three games – rolled a 195 in his second on his way to a 571 series.

Keith Agulto had a 184 high game and a 333 series, and Stephen Barnes rolled a 134 high game on his way to a 264 series.

Carter Babbage rolled a 161.

William Salerno led the Gladiators with a 161 high game and a 427 series.

The Goldbacks won the total pin count, 2,757-1,732.

The girls’ team did not compete as Goshen does not have a girls’ team.
