Their first match of the season was already a success for the Newburgh Free Academy boys’ bowling team.
Gage Szymanowicz rolled in 266 in his third game to finish with a match-high 704 series as the Goldbacks beat the Goshen Gladiators, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon at Pat Tarsio Lanes in Newburgh.
Szymanowicz also rolled in 244 in his second game and opened the day with a 194.
Jordan DeWitt rolled a 226 in his second game and a 201 in the third on his way to a 616 series. Andre Alexander – the only other Goldback to bowl all three games – rolled a 195 in his second on his way to a 571 series.
Keith Agulto had a 184 high game and a 333 series, and Stephen Barnes rolled a 134 high game on his way to a 264 series.
Carter Babbage rolled a 161.
William Salerno led the Gladiators with a 161 high game and a 427 series.
The Goldbacks won the total pin count, 2,757-1,732.
The girls’ team did not compete as Goshen does not have a girls’ team.
