The Newburgh Free Academy softball team won its first game of the season on April 18 with a 15-3 victory over Pine Bush.

Alina Ferguson struck out 12 batters and allowed five hits.

Ali Miller, Cam Perdomo and Maddie Gravel each homered for the Goldbacks.

They finished the week on Wednesday with a 12-1 loss to Monroe-Woodbury.

They were shut down by Valerie Pederson who allowed only two hits and four strikeouts over four innings. Briannna Roberts threw two innings of hitless relief.

Kelsey O’Brien homered twice, drove in five and scored four runs for the Crusaders.

Marissa Scarano singled home Newburgh’s only run, and Ferguson allowed seven hits to take the loss.
