Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Friday, July 12, Rudolph Davis, 31, of Newburgh, was convicted after a jury trial in the Orange County Court of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, the sole charge against him. Davis faces up to 15 years in prison when he is scheduled to be sentenced on October 17, 2024. Davis was remanded back to the Orange County Jail without bail following the jury’s verdict.

As alleged at trial, on November 5, 2023 at approximately 1:05 a.m., members of the Town of Montgomery Police Department responded to a complaint for an individual menacing others with a gun in the Village of Maybrook. The responding officers located a van matching the description in the complaint driving away from the location. When the police stopped the vehicle, they found it to be operated by a woman, who was separately charged, while Davis was the front seat passenger. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a loaded 9mm handgun in the center console. Davis was found to have additional rounds matching the gun in his pocket, which also matched rounds located at the scene of the original incident.

Hoovler thanked the Town of Montgomery Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Davis. District Attorney Hoovler also thanked the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police who assisted in the investigation.
