More than 100 artists will open their studios, galleries and other creative spaces to the public Sept. 26-27 for the 16th annual Newburgh Open Studios.
The free, self-guided tour will run from noon to 6 p.m. both days and will feature artists working in a variety of disciplines, including painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, video and performance art.
Tour maps will be available beginning at 10 a.m. each day at Newburgh Art Supply, 5 Grand St., which serves as the starting point for the event.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet emerging and established artists and see their work in studios and other spaces that are not ordinarily open to the public.
Much of the tour is walkable and includes Bank Arts, formerly the Karpeles Museum; Umbra Suites, formerly Regal Bag; Atlas Studios; The Foundry; Ann Street Studios; Holland Tunnel Revisited; Newburgh Mercantile; Ann Street Gallery; ADS Warehouse; Grit Works Gallery; Tooker Gallery; Holden House and Crawford House. The tour also includes galleries, institutions and live/work studios in the city’s Historic District.
Newburgh Open Studios was founded in 2011 by Gerardo Castro and Michael Gabor, owner of Newburgh Art Supply. The event is organized by Gabor and a team of volunteers.
The organizers say the event is intended to promote artistic expression, civic participation and economic growth in Newburgh by supporting and promoting local artists and the arts.
The 2026 event is dedicated to Castro, who died in 2024.
Newburgh Open Studios is designed to give visitors a look beyond finished artwork and provide an opportunity to learn about the artistic process, including how, why and where artists create their work.
The event is geared toward artists in the City of Newburgh with established studio practices.
