The Newburgh Free Academy boys’ bowling team got off to a good start with its second straight win to start the season on December 6 when the Goldbacks scored a 5-0 victory over the Marlboro Iron Dukes at Pat Tarsio Lanes.

After two seasons of almost exclusively virtual matches, the Goldbacks and Dukes played an in-person match. They also met up in person last season as they both call Tarsio Lanes home.

Jordan DeWitt scored a high game of 255 for the Goldbacks, who won the total pin count, 2,851-2,103.

Dylan Hanigan was right behind him with two games of 236 and 227 respectively.

Daniel Decker and Kevin Novella were the only two Goldbacks to bowl all three games. Decker had a 235 high game and finished with a three-game series of 569. Novella didn’t break 200, but he was the Goldbacks most consistent bowler with scores of 191, 194 and 192. He finished with a three-game series score of 577.

Patrick Tarsio had the two high games for Marlboro with scores of 185 and 182.

The Goldbacks opened the season five days earlier with a 3-1 win over the Kingston Tigers.

The girls’ team lost their match, 5-0, to the Dukes. Stevie Amato led the Dukes with a 182 high game, while Emily Tarsio had a 170 high game. Paige Brooks rolled a 166 high game. The Dukes won the pin count in all three games, and won the total pin total, 2,121-1,824.

Gianna Alisandrella led the Goldbacks with a 188 high game. She also rolled a 149 on her way to a 467 series. Katie Bell rolled a 148 high game and Tatum Connolly had a 145 high game.

The Goldbacks also were beaten by Kingston, 5-0 on Dec. 1.
