Reject Newburgh ICE detention center

Posted

The Town of Newburgh needs to do more than simply pass a resolution against the proposed ICE detention center on Corporate Boulevard. ICE and Border Patrol want to use the warehouse to detain immigrants and process them for deportation. The proposed detention center is a warehouse; it does not have enough bathrooms, kitchens, or sleeping areas for thousands of detainees. ICE has shown both cruelty and incompetence in running these centers; over 50 people have died in detention this year alone. I urge all Newburgh residents to oppose this ICE detention center and make their voices heard. We cannot allow this administration to continue to dehumanize people who come to this country for a better life. Congress needs to pass an amnesty bill and begin to dismantle the detention industrial complex.
