San Miguel Academy students commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day

Posted

On April 28, San Miguel Academy joined with communities around the world to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day. San Miguel Academy 8th graders read selections from Night by Elie Weisel and read essays they had written about the factors that led to Weisel’s survival in not one but two concentration camps.

San Miguel Academy partners with the Rabbi Erwin Zimet Foundation to support its holocaust studies program featuring a yearly trip to the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in lower Manhattan.  Students will visit the museum virtually next week.

Throughout the year, themes from the Holocaust- courage, resilience, the value of human life, and tolerance, especially as it relates to exploring other cultures- are woven into the humanities curriculum for all students at San Miguel Academy.
