At the most recent New Windsor Town Board meeting, the Little Falls Park was discussed. A path exists at the park, from Bradford Avenue to Walsh Avenue, but the town has been in talks with various environmental groups, like Scenic Hudson, about creating a more user-friendly park. Scenic Hudson has committed $50,000 to develop a site plan and have the existing pathway run along Quassaick Creek to the Hudson River and connect with Snake Hill and Ruscitti Field.
Supervisor Stephen Bedetti reached out to Senator James Skoufis about state funding to accomplish the goals detailed in the site plan.
In some other business from the meeting:
Zoning change. The owner of Best in Backyards, located at 432 Temple Hill Road, is currently building a showroom, but would like to construct a mixed-use building with businesses on the first floor and apartments on the second and third. Doing so, however, would require a zoning change to allow for mixed uses. While the moratorium is in place on warehouses and storage units, a zoning change will also be discussed in the Comprehensive Plan update.
Columbarium. The town will be seeking a request for proposal for two columbariums at Woodlawn Cemetery - one by the pond and the other close to Rt. 94 across from the site of the former Destinta Theater. The latter would likely be constructed first because it’s closer to the caretaker’s house. There are also concerns about the water table closer to the pond, so that will require additional engineering. The goal is to complete as much of the site work in house as possible.
Water tank. The town awarded the bid, for the Stewart Water Treatment Plant water storage tank project, in the amount of $7.2 million to DN Tanks, the lowest possible bidder. This is part of the first phase of a new water plant near the airport.
Grant. A $50,000 New York State Strengthening Essential Cybersecurity for Utilities and Resiliency Enhancement Grant was awarded to the town in order to protect water and sewer infrastructure.
Charging stations. In June, the Planning Board granted conditional site plan approval to install eight electric vehicle charging stations within the existing parking lot located at 374 Windsor Highway (former K-Mart Plaza). The charging stations, which will tie directly into the Central Hudson power grid, will be located on the northeast corner of the lot and will cost over $150,000.
