NFA relay team 13th at state swim meet
The Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks’ 400-meter freestyle relay team had the Goldbacks’ top finish at Saturday’s New York State Federation boys’ swimming championships at the Kelsey Patridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College.

The team of Peyton Tuttle, Jackson Cooper, Angelo Reade and Jack Mummery finished 13th with a time of 3:15.35.

The Goldbacks’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Mummery, Vinny Velasquez, Tuttle and Reade finished 21st with a time of 1:28.91, five spots and nearly 3 seconds ahead of their preliminary time of 1:31.20.

Mummery finished 19th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.86 and 25th in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:50.68.

He qualified for the meet’s second day when he finished 20th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.68. He also was 28th in the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries in 4:51.90.

Tuttle finished 27th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.13. He finished 31st in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.24.

Aidan Domanico was 35th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.31 seconds.

Angelo Reade finished 42nd in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.46 seconds, and 52nd in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.55 seconds.

Goldbacks fall in semis

The second-seeded Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks saw their season end on Thursday with a 64-52 loss to the No. 3 Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders in the Section 9 Class AAA boys’ basketball semifinals on Thursday.

It was Newburgh’s second loss to the Crusaders this season. They dropped the first game, 58-68, on Jan. 8 on the road before avenging that loss with a 68-57 victory on Feb. 12.

The Goldbacks finished the season with an 8-12 record.
