Stridiron to remain on Newburgh school board

Darren Stridiron will remain on as Newburgh Board of Education President and as a member on the board. The decision was made following a letter sent on behalf of the New York State Education Department to Board of Education Attorney David Shaw.

“I am pleased with the decision by the Commissioner to reject the argument by David Shaw and the five Board members that voted to seek my immediate removal as Board President and as a Board member. Their claims that I needed to be removed immediately to protect the district from potential litigation was not validated by this decision by the Commissioner of Education,” said Stridiron in an email. “I look forward to working with the Board and the District leadership for the betterment of the students, staff, parents and taxpayers. My future filings with the Commissioner will show what is truly happening here and I look forward to many years of service to my community as a Board member.”

The decision came on the same day that Stridiron made similar remarks at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, October 24. Several weeks ago, during a special meeting on Saturday, October 7, the board of education met and moved forward with the filing of the petition against Stridiron. The petition identified in its language charges brought against him during a meeting on September 12.

Shaw did not respond to a request for comment.
