Successful season for Burks and his team

The Newburgh Elite Track Club finished the 2023-24 indoor track season on March 10 with several high finishes at the Nike Indoor Nationals at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City.

Additionally, Newburgh coach Malcolm Burks was recognized as the 2023-24 National Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

The 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team of Brady Danyluk, Anthony Burnett, Nakei Johnson and David Pinnock brought home a national title with a time of 3:30.58 on March 8. Their time is second best in the U.S.

On the third day of the meet, Johnson, Kendy Georges, DeJuan McKenzie and Jerod Underwood finished third in the boys’ emerging elite 1,600-meter relay in 3:27.20.

Pinnock, Anthony Barnett, Anthony Burnett and Danyluk finished third in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:22.37.

Four freshmen also had strong finishes on Day 1 of the meet. McKenzie was third in the freshman 400-meter dash in 51.60 seconds and Underwood took seventh in 52.71 seconds. Devon Pinto ran a 53.01 and Bryan Arenas had a 54.74.
