Town grants request for Unity Place

With final approval already granted by the Town of Newburgh Planning Board and a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan prepared, the Newburgh Town Board granted the request for the Unity Place Warehouse project to proceed with more than five acreage disturbance.

The proposed project sees the construction of a 154,700 square foot warehouse at the corner of Unity Place and Old Little Britain Road. According to Patrick Hines of MHE Engineering, the applicant would be disturbing 13.7 acres of land. Town board members did note that town residents had come out to the planning board to voice their concerns on the project.

“They [the warehouse applicant] did buy two additional acres and move their entrance drive, change their old truck routing, so they were responsive to the, to the public,” said Hines. “They kept the public hearing open for three additional public hearings to receive their [residents] input.”

“I went to a couple Planning Board meetings, they definitely worked with the residents,” said Councilman Scott Manley. “Progress is progress,” said Councilwoman Betty Greene.
