Over the weekend, the Town of New Windsor installed license plate readers at the Five Corners area of Vails Gate, where routes 32, 94 and 300 come together. Town Supervisor George Meyers said the license plate readers will help assist in ongoing investigations.

“When people go through, it will register their license plates,” said Meyers. “It has helped us in a number of police investigations, like how the one on Route 32 helped out the City of Newburgh with a homicide investigation.”

He said the footage isn’t reviewed unless there is an investigation or something happened that calls for it.

“It’s a good police technique,” said Meyers.
