A three-alarm fire on Sarvis Lane in the the Town of Newburgh has claimed one life.

The blaze, reported at around 11:45 p.m. Friday, burned well into the early morning hours.

Town of Newburgh fire claims one life

A three-alarm fire on Sarvis Lane in the the Town of Newburgh has claimed one life.

The blaze, reported at around 11:45 p.m. Friday, burned well into the early morning hours.

A second alarm was sounded after Cronomer Valley Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 9 Sarvis Lane late Friday night. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed of a possible entrapment inside the residence.

Multiple departments were called for mutual aid, including Coldenham Fire Department’s FAST team, tankers from Orange Lake, Air Guard, and Plattekill, as well as engines from Good Will, Winona Lake, and New Windsor, which stood by at Cronomer Valley’s firehouse. Town of Newburgh EMS transported the victim to Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital. Town of Newburgh Police were also on scene.

Central Hudson was contacted to cut power, and the Town of Newburgh Fire Inspector was called to investigate. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The victim was rushed to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh where the person was pronounced dead, according to multiple reports.

In recent weeks, the Cronomer Valley Fire Department has responded to a range of emergencies, including high-angle, animal, and water rescues, in addition to structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, and gas leaks.
