John Fleming Gould, renowned Hudson Valley artist, illustrator and lecturer on art, enjoyed a long prestigious career in art. With his wife Mary, Gould established the Bethlehem Art Gallery in Cornwall, in 1957. He was a successful painter in the world of fine arts, and especially, he was partial to local historical subjects, and his artwork is displayed in many private collections world-wide.

“Memories of Times Past-The creative Talent of John Gould,” was hosted with a reception at the Cornwall Public Library on July 10, with Robert Gould and his wife, Loretta Gould from Ooltewah, TN, and photographer William Gould, and artist Paul Gould. Together, they are working to keep the legacy of their father alive for generations to come. The art of John Gould has brought the Hudson River Valley to a prominent position in the world of art. “I did not wish to make a career of art…but fell back onto ‘art’ which came naturally.” John Fleming Gould (1906-1996)

It’s a lovely time when someone remembers our birthday, even though it might be belated birthday wishes, and that’s why some friends and parishioners at Mother Teresa of Calcutta-Sacred Heart planned to surprise Father Bill Scafidi, who was in town for the day. The celebration was held at Vesuvio’s Ristorante.

God bless you, Father, for the ways you serve with caring and devotion, and inspiring our parish.
