The Valley Central school board met briefly on July 10 for a re-organization meeting and a regular meeting.

District Clerk Ellen McGoldrick opened the re-organization meeting by introducing new member Fran Fox-Pizzonia.

McGoldrick then asked for a motion to elect the board president. The board re-elected Joseph Bond unanimously. Bond has served on the board for six years, three as president. Bond asked for a motion to elect the board vice president. The board elected Katie McKnight unanimously; she replaces Sarah Messing who remains on the board.

McGoldrick then swore in Superintendent Evette Avila and the seven board members.

On May 16 the public re-elected Fox-Pizzonia to the board; she served a term from 2013-16 before stepping down. The public also re-elected McKnight for a second term.

Avila distributed certificates of appreciation from the New York State School Boards Association to Bond, and board members Diana Revoir and Angela Terralavoro.

Avila called the June 24, 65th commencement a “very exciting and wonderful event” with a “fantastic valedictorian speech.” She thanked the district’s central office personnel as she completed her first six months as superintendent.

The board will next meet on July 24.
