Third student rep joins team at Marlboro School Board

Posted

Last week Harrison Solomon became the third student representative to the Marlboro School Board, joining his fellow seniors Evan Wheatley and Gabriella Cortes. There will always be two reps at each school board meeting, keeping them abreast of what is happening in all three of the schools in the district.

Solomon said he heard about the position last year when he was a Junior.

“I had some teachers tell me that I’d be a great fit and the idea of being in a position where I could speak for the student body and make positive changes in the whole district is something that appealed to me, so I’m really excited to start the position.”

Solomon said he and his fellow reps plan on visiting each of the three school campuses on a regular basis to talk to the Principals.

“In some cases we will talk to the students to meet them in a town hall kind of thing and then we write up our reports about different happenings and things like that,” he said.

Solomon said at the high school the students already know the three of them are the school board reps.

“Students have already come up to us and shared some thoughts about things they want to see changed or recognized, so it’s really great,” he said.

Solomon has been involved in the Youth in Government program run by Social Studies teacher James Ventriglia, calling it, “such a special program.” He said that his work at the school board is very complimentary to Ventriglia’s program, “especially the public speaking, the government aspects; it’s amazing.”
