The Marlborough Arts Coalition will celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary with a two-day Agriculture and Arts Culture Jubilee on May 29 and 30 at Prospect Hill Orchards in Milton.
The event, hosted in conjunction with the Ulster County Legislature, the Marlborough Historical Society, the New York State Council on the Arts and the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library, will take place at the orchard’s new barn and tasting room at 340 Milton Turnpike.
The jubilee will feature an art exhibition, a historical exhibit focused on the region’s farming heritage, local food and beverage tastings, art demonstrations, plein air painting, a beekeeping demonstration and live music.
Organizers said the event is a reimagined version of MaArCo’s annual Open Studio Tour.
The celebration begins Friday, May 29, with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. The evening will include historical presentations highlighting the agricultural history of the Marlborough area, along with refreshments provided by local vintners, farmers and brewers.
Live music will be performed by The Boroughs. The performance is sponsored by the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library through a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the Office of the Governor and the state Legislature.
Activities continue Saturday, May 30, from noon to 6 p.m. with artist talks, demonstrations and local agricultural vendors. Artists will create plein air works and discuss their techniques with attendees. Additional presentations by the Marlborough Historical Society and a beekeeping demonstration also are planned.
The event is free and open to the public. Organizers said the venue offers ample parking and is handicapped accessible.
