It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred "Al" Archie Birdsall, who entered into rest on May 17, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on April 24, 1937, in Cornwall, New York, Alfred was the beloved son of Nelly and Archie Birdsall. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean, and is survived by his brother, Tom Birdsall and his wife Karen, who reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Al was a proud veteran, having honorably served four years in the United States Navy. His dedication to his country was matched by his commitment to his community. Al was a retired supervisor from the U.S. Mint at West Point, where he contributed many years of diligent service. Additionally, he was an active volunteer firefighter in Cornwall for many years, embodying the spirit of selflessness and bravery.

Al’s strong work ethic extended into his retirement years, as he worked part-time for many years painting and doing odd fix-it jobs for family and friends, and at Brooks Funeral Home. A man of faith, Al was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh, where he found solace and strength in his spirituality.

Al was predeceased by the love of his life, Marlene Koisch, whom he affectionately and jokingly called "the boss." Their love and companionship were a testament to their deep bond and mutual respect that lasted almost 50 years.

Al was a devoted family man, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Birdsall, and his wife, Christine Birdsall. He also leaves behind his stepdaughters,  Nadina (Dina) Alarcon, and Lauri Maurice and her husband, Frank Maurice.

Al was a proud grandfather to Evan Birdsall, Danielle Sarita and her husband Gil Sarita, Frankie Maurice and his wife Sasha Maurice, Anthony Maurice, and Joseph Ponessi, and a loving great-grandfather to Giabella Sarita and Remi Rose Sarita. His family was his pride and joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Al’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and unconditional love. His kindness, wisdom, and warmth touched the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home. A service will be held to honor Al’s life and legacy at 11 am on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the funeral home, with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.

Alfred Archie Birdsall’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and the many lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
