Hallock Library introduces Nature Exploration backpacks
Starting July 9, the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library will offer Nature Exploration Backpacks, made possible by a grant from the Adirondack Mid-Hudson Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club.

Plattekill offers music, fireworks in the park
The Town of Plattekill has scheduled its Red, White and Blue Celebration for Saturday, July 13 at Thomas Felten Community Park in Modena.

The Plattekill Music in the Park series continues on July 9. The series will be held on consecutive Tuesdays, with each performance starting at 7 p.m.

The scheduled bands are: Angela Bruno (July 9), Kinfolk (July 16), Probable Cause (July 23), Sass and Brass (July 30), Dog Party (August 6), and Jungle Love (August 13).

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and their neighbors. Refreshments will be available.
The concerts will be held rain or shine.

Shades & Shadows to Host Fundraiser for Humane Society

Shades & Shadows will present the 3rd annual fundraiser for the Humane Society of Walden on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thomas Felten Community Park on Route 32 in Plattekill.

The event will feature a variety of talented vendors offering handmade items such as crocheted goods, garden decorations, clothing, tumblers, woodwork, and jewelry. Additionally, attendees can enjoy services such as reiki, tarot readings, and henna body art. For more details, visit the event page on Facebook at @ShellieShadesandShadows.

Admission to the event is a tangible or monetary donation for the cats and dogs in need at the shelter.

New Paltz Repair Café is July 27

The New Paltz Repair Café will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at the New Paltz United Methodist Church, located at 1 Grove Street.

The Repair Café initiative, which originated in Amsterdam in 2009, was introduced to New Paltz by volunteer organizer John Wackman in 2013. His initiative has since inspired similar events across various communities. The Repair Café of the Hudson Valley & Catskills, comprised of local organizers, promotes repair efforts within their respective towns.

Ukrainian Children Paint for Peace Benefit to be held at Studio 89

A benefit auction showcasing original artworks by war-torn Ukrainian children, ages 6-15, will take place at Studio 89 in Highland, Hosted by Mike Jurkovic, Emily Monahan, and Ukrainian resident Liudmyla Yakibchuk, the event is presented by Roost Studios and Studio 89.

The auction, dubbed “Ukrainian Children Paint for Peace,” features authentic Ukrainian cuisine courtesy of Chef Andrey Sovenytsky from the Ukrainian Heritage Center Soyuzivka, video presentations by the young artists, and live music. Bidding on all artworks will start at $45, with all proceeds benefiting the international charitable foundation Nucleus, which has supported the physical and psychological rehabilitation of children from de-occupied territories for 25 years.

Previews are scheduled for Friday, July 12, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, July 13, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The auction will commence on Sunday, July 14, at 1 p.m., concluding at 6 p.m. Winners must be present to pay for and collect their purchased art by the end of the auction.
