Mark Williams owner of Blazing Bagels in Montgomery, was honored recently as the Town of Montgomery Citizen of the Month
Williams was nominated by the Town of Montgomery Police Benevolent Association (PBA) whose members stopped at the restaurant following the tragic death of Town of Newburgh Police Detective D.J. Romano in a snowmobile accident. It was their intent to purchase some bagels to deliver to the Town of Newburgh Police Department headquarters.

“During tragic incidents like this, not having to think about getting food can be a simple comfort,” the Town of Montgomery Police wrote on their Facebook page. “The owner of Blazing Bagels, Mark Williams, was aware of the death of Detective Romano and asked if that was what the food was for. Once he was told the food was going to the Town of Newburgh Police, he refused to accept any payment or tip for what was prepared. He was not asked to make any donation, he did so regardless of the offer to pay. This is not the first time Mr. Williams has made donations like this to emergency services. He would likely not wish to be recognized for these acts and considers it the right thing to do. We appreciate what Mr. Williams and Blazing Bagels does for emergency services and the community and thank him for his continued support.”

It has been a difficult month for the Town of Montgomery Police Department. A recent Montgomery Town Board meeting began with a moment of silence for Police Dispatcher Fallyn Buffington who lost her life following a lengthy battle with COVID-19 and complications.
