Capital project update given

Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery Central School District Superintendent Michael McElduff told the community this week that capital project work is progressing nicely in all three of the district’s school buildings.

In a letter to the community, he wrote: “As we enter October, I would like to provide the community with an update on the ongoing Capital Project, which is impacting all three of our buildings. This project is vital to the future of our schools, and we cannot thank the community enough for your support in making these important upgrades and improvements. The project will not only modernize our facilities but also create much-needed additional space at FMES.”

His October 4 update included:
O’Neill High School: The roofing project at JIO is nearing completion, with substantial work expected to be finished early next week. The company has already begun demobilizing and moving equipment off-site. If the weather continues to cooperate, we anticipate the roofing team will remain on-site for the next three to four weeks to finalize the remaining tasks.

Highland Falls Intermediate School: Similar to JIO, the roofing work at HFIS is also on track for substantial completion early next week. Equipment is being moved off-site as we reach this milestone.

Fort Montgomery Elementary School: At FMES, interior demolition began on September 16. This work has involved the removal of ceilings, flooring, walls, and plumbing to prepare for the remodeling phase. On October 1, we reached a major milestone when ground was broken for the new addition, including rock removal to make way for the new construction. This progress in just three weeks is a testament to the commitment of our contractors, and we are optimistic that work will continue at a strong pace to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

McElduff also addressed an ongoing situation involving the fire alarm system at the HFIS.

“Regarding the fire alarm sensor issues, we had the fire alarm company visit HFIS on October 3 to address the recurring false alarms,” he said. “They made significant progress, and we are confident this will reduce the disruptions caused by the alarms.”
