Lamont Williams, 29, of Newburgh, was arraigned in Orange County Court, Wednesday November 30 and charged with murder in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and assault in the second degree as part of an unsealed indictment. Williams was arrested for the death of 29-year-old city resident Daquan Corbett on the evening of September 29, 2022.

Williams was tracked down to North Carolina, where he was taken into custody by the United States Marshal Service Regional Task Force inside of a mobile home. Williams was stated to have been hiding in a closet to elude authorities.

On the evening of September 29, Corbett was reported to have been shot multiple times near Washington St. and Clark St. Officers reported to the scene and found Corbett with multiple gunshot wounds along with a five-year-old boy riding his bicycle who was caught in the crossfire.

Corbett and the young boy were transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for treatment but Corbett succumbed to his injuries following the shooting. He was pronounced dead later that evening.

The young boy was later transported from St. Lukes to Westchester Medical Center for further treatment and sustained non life-threatening injuries.
