School News
Megan Champlin is excited to join the Marlboro Central School District this fall as the new elementary band director.

Champlin has been teaching for 14 years and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. She has prepared ensembles for numerous festivals, including the Long Island Music Festival, Suffolk County Music Educators Association festivals, NYSSMA Solo Festival, NYSSMA Majors and local All-County festivals, receiving gold and superior ratings at every major festival attended.

She is a past educational director for the Orange County Music Educators’ Association and has experience conducting All-District Elementary Jazz Band and Middle School Jazz Band. She also served as color guard director for Hauppauge High School’s marching band.

Champlin is an active performer in the Hudson Valley, playing horn with groups including the New York Wind Symphony, Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra and SUNY Ulster Community Band. She has been invited to guest conduct the SUNY Ulster Community Band, as well as the Orange County Music Educators’ Association Elementary All-County Band and Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association Elementary All-County Band.

Outside of teaching, performing and conducting, Champlin enjoys spending time with her husband and two young daughters. She looks forward to making music with her students at Marlboro Elementary School and meeting everyone in the school community.

Marlboro High School hosted its annual College Fair on Oct. 14, welcoming approximately 40 college and career representatives to connect with Marlboro students.

Organized by the Guidance Office, the fair gave students and their families an opportunity to ask questions and explore a variety of options, including two- and four-year colleges, technical and trade schools, and branches of the military.

Thank you to the Guidance Office and all the representatives who helped make this a valuable opportunity for students to explore their options and take the next step toward their futures.

St. Mary’s Church
The next Faith Formation classes will be held Oct. 25 at 9:45 a.m. for elementary students and Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. for middle school students.

If you did not attend the last class, no worries. The parish will get you registered this week. Thank you for your patience as this year’s program is organized.

On Saturday, Nov. 14, the Knights of Columbus will host a community dinner at St. Mary’s Hall from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner will benefit the annual local Coats for Kids drive and support local veterans.
There will be no charge for the dinner. An anonymous donation box will be available for those who wish to contribute. More information will follow in future bulletins.

Father Hanley Council 7266 meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the parish hall.

Weekly Recipe
Jack-O’-Lantern Stuffed Peppers
Ingredients (Serves 4)
4 large orange bell peppers

1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 cup cooked rice
1 cup marinara sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut the tops off the orange peppers and remove seeds.

Using a small knife, carve simple jack-o’-lantern faces into the peppers. In a skillet, cook the ground meat until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in the cooked rice, marinara sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and mix in half of the cheese. Fill each pepper with the mixture and place in a baking dish.

Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, and bake for another 10 minutes until melted. Let cool slightly and serve.

Halloween Tip: Place the peppers on a dark serving tray with a little dry ice nearby (managed safely) for a spooky fog effect. Halloween dinner that is festive, kid-friendly, and delicious!
