Winona/Orange Lake Fire Department firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a vacant residence at 7:57 a.m. Oct. 2.
Winona Lake Car 2 arrived and reported an active fire, prompting a second alarm. Cronomer Valley-Good Will and Newburgh fire departments responded to the scene.
Central Hudson was called to disconnect power to the residence. Town of Newburgh and City of Newburgh police and EMS personnel also responded.
Firefighters used hand lines to battle the fire. The Vails Gate Fire Department FAST team was requested to the scene. Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinator 36-12 and the Town of Newburgh Fire Inspector’s Office also responded.
One firefighter was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for treatment. The fire remains under investigation.
