Fire destroys City Terrace home

On Thursday, June 27, at approximately 2:43 AM, the Newburgh Police Department reported a structure fire at 24 City Terrace. Upon arrival, responding fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions that engulfed 24 City Terrace and were spreading to neighboring structures. A second alarm was immediately transmitted. Firefighters worked to contain the flames while evacuating residents from 26 and 28 City Terrace.

The City of Newburgh Fire Department received mutual aid from West Point, Stewart Air Guard, Castle Point, Cronomer Valley, Good Will, and Cornwall-on-Hudson fire departments. 

The fire resulted in the total destruction of 24 City Terrace and severe damage to 22 and 26 City Terrace. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation. Three adults and one child were displaced and are receiving Red Cross assistance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by city fire investigators.
