Gardiner Library hosts Local Amusement Parks of the Hudson Valley with Wes Gottlock on Sunday June 11, 2-3 p.m.

Starting as early as the 1870s, a burgeoning population along the Hudson River valley created a need for recreational activities.  With the valley’s natural beauty, its access to waterfront towns and its proximity to the nation’s largest metropolis, entrepreneurs were quick to respond.

The authors, Wes and Barbara Gottlock, highlight some of the amusement parks, now largely forgotten, that entertained millions well into the 20th century.

After their retirement as educators, Wes and Barbara Gottlock developed a passion for Hudson Valley and New York City history. Their initial interest was piqued when they became involved with the Bannerman Castle Trust and the history of the storied Bannerman Island. They have since published seven books and have presented over 250 programs throughout the metropolitan area. Their website is gottlockbooks.com.

Gardiner Library is located at 133 Farmer’s Turnpike in Gardiner. Visit gardinerlibrary.org.
