Posted

Jaiseon Barnwell completed 10 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns as the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks sailed to a 26-14 win over the Minisink Valley Warriors on Friday at Academy Field.

Jayden Hines caught four passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns while Jahsir Davis caught four passes for 114 yards and a touchdown and Chris Legget caught a 28-yard touchdown pass.

The Goldbacks trailed throughout the first half, as the Warriors threatened to blow the game wide open. But the Newburgh defense stiffened, stopping a Minisink drive inside the Newburgh five-yard line.

The Goldbacks finally got on the board on the final play of the first half, when Barnwell and Davis connected on a scoring play to cut the Warrior lead to 14-7.

The second half belonged to the Goldbacks who scored three touchdowns, while shutting down the Minisink offense.

Leggett also recovered a fumble. Austin Lilla had nine tackles and Justin Lassic had seven. Liam Ehlers had six tackles and Stephen Jones had five tackles and a sack. Noah Sparman had an interception.

The Goldbacks (2-0) return to Academy Field on Friday, Sept. 20, to entertain the Cornwall Dragons (1-1). The Dragon lost to Monroe-Woodbury this past weekend.
