The Customs and Border Patrol Agents manning our southern border would be doing a phenomenal business if their jobs were to act as travel agents. Unfortunately, that’s not their job as previously defined when they were established in 1924. The “U.S. Customs and Border Protection within the Department of Homeland Security is responsible for securing U.S. borders between ports of entry. The Border Patrol was officially established on May 28, 1924 by an act of Congress passed in response to increasing illegal immigration.” “Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the focus of the Border Patrol has changed to detection, apprehension and/or deterrence of terrorists and terrorist weapons. Although the Border Patrol has changed dramatically since its inception in 1924, its overall mission remains unchanged: to detect and prevent the illegal entry of individuals into the United States. Together with other law enforcement officers, the Border Patrol helps maintain borders that work, facilitating the flow of legal immigration and goods while preventing the illegal trafficking of people and contraband,” to include the fentanyl that has taken almost 100,000 American lives in fiscal year 2022.

In fiscal year 2022 CBP processed 2,766,582 people who were detained after crossing illegally into the United States. Since taking office in January 2021, President Biden has decided to ignore our immigration laws resulting in over 5 million encounters (aka illegal immigrants) entering the United States. That number is greater than the individual populations of 27 of our states.

Now, almost 2 years into the mass migration, some news outlets are finally covering this story. Perhaps the bus loads of migrants being sent to New York City, Washington DC and Chicago have gotten their attention? The Mayor of NYC is asking the federal government (U.S. Taxpayers) for a billion dollars to cover his cost for the 30,000 migrants now in his city. In the meantime, the City of El Paso Texas, with a population of under 700,000, is spending $300,000 a day to shelter, feed and bus migrants. So far, they have spent $8 million and the federal government has only reimbursed them $2 million.
