James “Barry” Stegall, of Wallkill, entered into rest on Friday, May 10, 2024. He was 84.

Son of the late James B. and Ethel K. (Agnew) Stegall, he was born February 8, 1940 in Newburgh..

He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard retiring after 20 years of service. “Barry” as he was known to family and friends had his own route in Rockland County with the Coca Cola Bottling Company. After retiring from Coca Cola he went on to work as a corrections officer for the NYS Department of Corrections for almost 20 years.

Barry was an incredibly skilled gunsmith and knowledgeable outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the New York State Rifle Association, the New York State Federation and a life member of both the Wallkill and the Plattekill Rod and Gun Clubs. He was also involved as a volunteer with the local Boys Scouts of America.

Survivors include his son, Scott B. Stegall of Wallkill; a daughter, Beth J. (Richard) Melfe of Wallkill; four grandchildren, Kyle and Shane Melfe and Kristie and Travis Stegall; a great grandson, Jasaii; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Janice E. (O’Boy) Stegall in 2020.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, May 14, 20204 from 4  pm to 7:  pm at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.

A Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11  am, at the Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at the Wallkill Valley Cemetery.
