The City of Newburgh is entering a contract with Hudson Valley Engineering Associates for Construction Inspection for the bridge replacement project along Route 32 on Lake Street.

Currently, there is a temporary bridge structure in place with a 10 mile per hour speed limit. The inspection work is the first step towards beginning construction on the bridge. City Manager Joseph Donat said he expects construction to begin between this spring and summer.

The inspection services come at a cost of $284,441, which will be funded by a Dormitory Authority of the State of New York grant, the Orange County Transportation Council Transportation Improvement Project reserve fund and from the budget as a grant match.

Councilman Anthony Grice said Newburgh’s Department of Public Works did cement work at the bottom as well.

“I’m just happy our bridges are being repaired,” said Grice.

McLaren Engineering will conduct land surveying and other engineering services for the project.

Simultaneously, there is another bridge replacement happening on Lake Drive. At the end of January, the city received a delivery of the new pre-cast concrete bridge structure to be installed.
