Fire started on 3rd floor

Posted

On Thursday, July 25,  at 8:08 p.m., the City of Newburgh Police Department reported an alarm sounding at 103 Liberty Street Upon arrival, responding fire crews identified a fire alarm and a sprinkler flow alarm sounding in a four-story building.

Fire crews identified a strong odor of smoke on the upper three floors, which led to the discovery of a small fire in a bedroom on the third floor. The fire was quickly put out using a single sprinkler, limiting the spread of the fire and smoke damage to the building. Afterwards, the sprinkler system was shut down. On duty crews then aided in preserving property.

Several occupants are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. The fire remains under investigation by City fire investigators.

Water from the sprinkler system damaged the downstairs tailoring shop of Bianca Sotelo, forcing its closure.

“We have had an inconvenience. of water in our building unfortunately,” Sotelo wrote on Facebook. “ We will be closed until further notice. all our clients. I will be in touch to. collect. your orders. and hoping.”

Sotelo will continue to finish orders from home until a temporary location is fund. She does plan to reopen the Liberty Street shop once repairs are completed.
