Lloyd realignment project moving forward

Lloyd Supervisor Dave Plavchak said construction is well underway on the Tillson/Toc realignment project, with barricades now up on Tillson Avenue.

“I think people have found every way in the world to get around those barricades and every day we find a new hole in them that we try to close up,” he said.

Plavchak said presently they are working on some of the retaining walls on Tillson and Central Hudson was in moving the gas line.

“If you look across on the Tillson side, you’ll see where they leveled that out where the new road is going to get set up when they put the new bridge in,” he said.
Plavchak confirmed that a temporary traffic light will be put at the corner of Route 44/55 and Chapel Hill in about a week.

“I think that will help some of us sleep better knowing that people who are not used to making that blind left turn will have to stop for a red light or have a green light to do it on,” he said. “I am interested to see if it will help with the congestion on Chapel Hill.”

Councilman Joe Mazzetti is hoping the light will remain after the project is completed.

“That’s a bad intersection and I think this will help alleviate much of the ‘back traffic’ on Chapel Hill,” he said.

Plavchak said in early 2022 the Ulster County Transportation Council did a turn count each way at this intersection and he received a copy of their study. He said this was given to the town’s engineering firm Barton & Loguidice, “so they can figure out how to time the lights out there, so it was handy that we had that report.”
